Our product install its files over a directory on /opt, e.g. /opt/<prod dir>/bin/<executable>, so the IPS manifest contains entries with
path=opt/<prod dir>/bin/<executable>
The problem is that /opt/<prod dir> might already exist on the machine as a symbolic link to another directory (also containing other files); in this case, pkg install fails with the message:
pkg: Requested operation failed for package ...:
Cannot install '/opt/<prod dir>/bin/<executable>'; parent directory /opt/<prod dir> is a link to ... To continue, move the directory to its original location and try again.
Any way to prevent this behavior? The SVR4 packages support this capability.
